In yet another of the many transfer saga’s involving Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates, Lesedi Kapinga chose the Buccaneers over Amakhosi.

Chiefs and Pirates had both shown and interest in former Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Lesedi Kapinga, with the Bafana Bafana star choosing the black and white side.

On Tuesday, Pirates fans were greeted by the welcome news of their club adding the tricky Kapinga to their roster, making it their 6th signing of the season. The fifth signing of goalkeeper Siphamandla Gumede from Dondol Stars, has only been announced by the ABC Motsepe League as of now, and is expected to be confirmed by the Buccaneers shortly.
Chiefs had been keeping tabs on Kapinga and were speaking to his representatives over the possibility to strike a deal.. Pirates on the other hand, also had an early interest in the player that stretched as far back as when he was still at Leopards. From Leopards he snubbed an offer to Soweto and opted for Sundowns instead. Before the end of the season, there were links of a possible swap deal between Pirates and Sundowns for Kapinga and Vincent Pule.

Now as he integrates himself with his new teammates, the agent of the Pirates number 21, Moses Mudau has opened up on why Kapinga chose Pirates over Chiefs.
WHY KAPINGA CHOSE PIRATES OVER CHIEFS
“Kapinga still wants to win trophies, So we sat down and checked that Pirates will play in the Caf Champions League and they want to win the league next season. In addition, they have a strong squad that Kapinga can contribute to, and we have succeeded in his wish. Other teams offered good deals but we realised that Pirates are the ones who will help the player achieve what he wants.” Said Mudau to IOL.

Just like at Sundowns, however, Kapinga will be dealing with a lot of competition for a place in the Pirates line up. The same would’ve applied at Chiefs as well and it now remains to be seen just how much his fortunes will change at the Sea Robbers.
