Reports indicate that the messages were sent on Sunday, 3 September. This decision comes just months after the announcement that the soapie will end this year after two decades on air.

In July, it was revealed that the Afrikaans drama series was not recommissioned for another season and will conclude on 24 December 2023.

However, amidst this news, the drama series has faced another setback that may lead to an earlier end.

According to IOL, production company Odendaal Productions disclosed that the management had decided to immediately suspend all normal operations due to financial difficulties.

Insufficient funds to cover salaries and day-to-day operational requirements were cited as the reasons for this decision.

SABC SOAPIE SUSPENDS CAST VIA WHATSAPP

Rumors suggest that SABC was struggling to pay salaries on time, which impacted the production’s ability to meet daily requirements.

A portion of the circulated WhatsApp message states: “You are not required to be at the production studios until further notice. Management will communicate when you can resume normal duties.

Please remember that the principle of no work, no pay applies as per the contractual terms and conditions.”
