Kaizer Chiefs are set to open their DSTV Premiership account on the weekend, and have been finalising their squad ahead of the Chippa United opener.
As it stands the number of players Chiefs have brought in, matches the number of players they have allowed to leave at seven a piece.
So far the team has announced, Thathayoane Ditlhokwe, Given Msimango, Mduduzi Mdantsane, Edson Castillo, Pule Mmodi, Ranga Chivaviro and Tebogo Potsane. In a balancing act, Chiefs have also seen the seven players leaving their squad, the likes of Eric Mathoho, Siyabonga Ngezana, Phathutshedzo Nange, Cole Alexander, Khama Billiat, Austin Dube and most recently Kgaogelo Sekgota all leaving Naturena. Now according to the latest reports, they’re no longer set to release a seventh in the shape of striker Caleb Bimenyimana.
Sekgota was one of the players believed to be in danger of leaving Chiefs, after failing to make an impression at the club. The speedy winger joined Amakhosi from Moroka Swallows on a free transfer, ahead of the 2021/22 season. There was much expected of the former South African junior international, with many believing that his true potential will be unlocked either by then coach Stuart Baxter or the next coach in Arthur Zwane.
But neither had the desired effect on Sekgota’s career at Chiefs, with the club announcing that they had terminated his deal a year early. Within a matter of moments, he had been confirmed as a new signing at Stellenbosch, where he will be hoping to make a more than better impact than he did in the colours of the Glamour Boys.
SEKGOTA HAD TERRIBLE STATS AT CHIEFS
Honestly speaking, it shouldn’t be that hard for Sekgota, when you look at how dismal his stats were at Chiefs. The former Bidvest Wits man appeared 48 times for the Soweto giants, failing to find the back of the net and only laying down one assist during that time.
Now when you look at that, Chiefs fans what do you think of the decision to release Sekgota?
